Sewage Backup during a Flood

Sewage backup is the cherry on the rotten Sunday of a flood damage cleanup project. As if it isn't bad enough you are faced with the prospect of cleaning up after thousands of gallons of water that have coursed through your home now you also have to deal with raw sewage that may have been left behind in your home. The basic rule of thumb for cleaning up sewage backup during a flood restoration project is to hire a professional.

Here are a couple preventative measures you can do to prevent sewage backup from entering your home. The first is to hire a plumber and install a shut off valve which can be either manually or automatically turn off your plumbing system from the towns in case of sewage backup. The second thing you can do is to raise or remove any appliance in your basement that is connected to the plumbing system. This includes sinks, washing machines, and toilets.
